The Role - Mechanical Design Engineer
The successful Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, development and design management of the companies hardware associated to its laparoscopic visualisation platform currently under development (medical devices). Working closely with management on the design development, planning and execution of the visualisation development programme.
The Client:
My client, a company in its infancy with a vision to be the market leader in the research, engineering, design, development and marketing of advanced visualisation devices which improve the standardisation, safety and surgical outcomes of minimally invasive surgical procedures.
The Right Person
The successful mechanical design engineer will ideally hold a honours degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, design engineering or industrial design etc. You will also have demonstrable experience in industry in the field of medical device design and development (D&D) or research and development (R&D), although this is not essential, a background in mechatronics would also be suitable.
Experience working within ISO13485 and preparing documentation (i.e. Design History File, Risk Management ISO14971, Design and development procedures, Change control)
Creative in approaching technical challenges
Skills & Abilities
Excellent/advanced CAD/CAM skills (SolidWorks preferred)
Experience at design for manufacture (DFM -injection moulding, CNC, etc.) is desired
A basic understanding of electronics would be preferable, i.e. for CAD integration
Stress analysis skills are desirable (i.e. virtual testing -COSMOS works)
Excellent MS Office skills, notably MS Project and MS PowerPoint.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise initiative and identify problems and suggest improved working methods
Excellent report writing skills.
Proven analysis and design skills.
Proven communication skills, in particular communicating technical information to non technical audiences.
Ability to prioritise tasks, work independently and work effectively to meet deadlines.
Ability to present technical information succinctly and persuasively in meetings.
Provide positive input into R&D strategy and planning meetings.
Ability to learn new skills quickly
Must be a self-motivated and ambitious individual that also has the skill set to work effectively on a team
A passion and enthusiasm for design engineering and development of surgical technology.
