Design Manager's from an MEP background will enjoy working for a Tier 1 contractor in the delivery of a major life-sciences project in the North East of the UK. Excellent opportunity for an expert Design professional to lead a project from cradle-to-grave on one of their landmark projects within the UK, working on a technically complex engineering project with fantastic career progression opportunities available.

A well-known name in the UK Construction market, this leading organization is a market leader in the European Data Centre construction industry, delivering multiple projects across the UK and EMEA at the moment for Blue-Chip organizations. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Critique tender documentation, identify project risks.
  • Appraise BREEAM obligation.
  • Demonstrate design management procedures for submission.
  • Present design strategy at interview presentation.
  • Set design deliverables for each consultant and CDP contractor and schedule drawings, specifications and other design information required for construction.
  • Prepare design programme in conjunction with PM, consultants and CDP contractors.
  • For D&B identify and agree drawings/samples for Client satisfaction.
  • For D&B produce a programme of critical dates for Client approvals.
  • Monitor and report on design progress, statutory approvals, outstanding information required, subcontractor design, environmental/CDM issues.
  • Ensure compliance with BREEAM design criteria (where appropriate).
  • Develop and agree design input/output responsibilities between consultants and subcontractors with design responsibilities.
  • Review design information at tender and construction and report on:
    • Value Engineering Construction.
    • Risk
    • Value Engineering Construction
    • Adequacy and completeness
    • Buildability
    • Statutory compliance
    • Contract
    • Coordination
    • BREEAM
  • Assist in production of scopes of work.
  • Identify package interfaces.
  • Assist in breaking down project to suitable subcontract packages.
  • Assist in selection and interview of subcontractors.
  • Review subcontractor tender information.
  • Management of CDP contractors in same manor as consultants.

Skills & experience

  • Strong industry experience from either an architectural or project management background
  • Must have experience of a similar role on a project in excess of £10m.
  • Experience of both design and build and traditional contracting.
  • BEng (Hons) Structures, Civils, MEP or Architecture
  • Experience in design and design management experience with associated Building Services and associated Technical Engineering and MEP facilities;
  • Industry experience including a track record of successfully delivered projects;
  • In-depth knowledge of the design and construction process, both new-build, refurbishment and fit out;
  • Understands the pre-construction process. Can organise and manage the design phase of a project;
  • Has been involved in at least one large (£50m+) project.
