Preconstruction/ Strategic Technical Manager Position
- Contract Position - remote working
- £450/day (inside IR35)
- Full-time (5 days per week initially), potentially reducing to 3 days per week as the workload evolves
We are seeking an experienced Strategic/ Preconstruction Technical Manager to join our developer client's technical team on a 6-12 months contract, with the potential to transition into a permanent role. This is a remote position, and a laptop will be provided.
The Strategic Technical Manager will play a pivotal role in early-stage planning and pre-construction work, ensuring technical due diligence is carried out effectively to de-risk projects prior to budget sign-off or land purchase. You will coordinate utility and planning activities, working closely with the Strategic Planning Manager and wider team to support the successful delivery of projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead on technical due diligence for prospective sites, identifying and mitigating risks ahead of land acquisition.
- Support the early planning stage design process and ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and budgetary constraints.
- Coordinate utility and planning work, ensuring cost certainty and timely resolution of statutory service requirements.
- Prepare and manage consultant briefs and appointments where required.
- Produce technical reports, risk assessments, and value engineering proposals.
- Review contracts, Section 106 agreements, and planning conditions to support project delivery.
- Work collaboratively across Land, Planning, and Technical teams to provide robust technical appraisals.
What We're Looking For
- Strong technical expertise with a signifiant amount of experience across civil engineering, utilities, commercial, and residential developments.
- Proven track record of managing projects from inception through to completion.
- Excellent knowledge of statutory requirements (Building Regulations, NHBC Standards, sustainability).
- Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
- A proactive problem-solver who can influence design and drive value engineering initiatives.
