Dutton Recruitment are recruiting on behalf of a local authority situated in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. The client is in the market for an experienced Health and Safety Officer to join their operations department. The successful candidate will ideally possess all the necessary accreditations to fulfil the role, including NEBOSH.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out internal and external audits and filing accurate reports
  • Scheduling internal team meetings with departmental managers in order to provide advice and support
  • Maintaining the company Fire Protection Log and carrying out all necessary tests and safety drills
  • Presenting monthly statistical reports relating to accidents, complaints, risk assessments and occupational health hazards.
  • Maintaining an in-depth knowledge of the companies Health & Safety legislation and identifying major 'high risk' projects
  • Ensuring all site engineers are well versed with regards to risk assessment and hazardous environments
  • Acting as the 1st point of contact with engineers looking to file an accident report
  • Escalating 'high risk' Health & Safety issues with senior management team
  • Maintaining an up to date commercial awareness of statutory Health & Safety and Environmental Laws
  • Assisting quantity surveyors with onsite precautionary tasks prior to sanctioning engineered works
  • Liaising closely with the construction management department
  • Pre- planning and prioritising workloads
  • Travelling to and from various sites when necessary

Qualifications and Experience:

  • NEBOSH (Minimum)
  • Comfortable with carrying out in depth company audits
  • Ability to read and interpret statistical data and produce accurate reports
  • Well versed in the use of all MS Office packages and bespoke ERP systems
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 18001 & ISO 14001
  • Strong working knowledge of governed Health & Safety and Environmental Laws
  • Previous experience of working in a construction environment would be advantageous
  • Full UK driving license
