Kier Local Highways is currently recruiting for a Garage Service Manager to join the local authority contract in the South West. The successful post holder will be responsible for ensuring that customer's vehicles and plant are serviced and maintained to DVSA and manufacturers guidelines. To identify the need to procure equipment and tools. To use IT systems to measure and manage the performance of vehicles, plant and staff. To asses and estimate repairs.

Kier Highways design roads, bridges and intelligent transport systems (ITS), covering strategic and nationally important roads, as well as local roads serving local communities. Our projects range from major improvements to complete renewals of roads and structures. With specialist teams, we manage complex works from conception through to handover at the end of maintenance periods.
Key Responsibilities:
- To take effective action on all defect report sheets and communications, which may affect safety, legislation and wellbeing of any fleet item.
- To diagnose vehicle and plant defects and supply estimates for repairs if required.
- To organise warranty repairs and maintain records.
- To monitor and manage maintenance costs and vehicle downtime.
- To manage staff working in the MOT facility and to make sure all legislation is adhered to.
- To supply quotes and achieve targets as agreed with clients and the Contract Manager.
- Maintain vehicle maintenance records in accordance with DVSA recommendations.
- Ensure that PMI intervals are achieved in line with the O Licence undertaking.
- To identify training needs of staff.
- To manage staff in line with HR policies and procedures.
- Use IT systems to monitor maintenance costs of assets and advise on uneconomical repairs.
- Monitor jobcard closures to maximise efficiency of cost recovery and accuracy of management information.
- Ensure that programmed services and PMI inspections on HGV and LCV assets are carried out and reports and databases are maintained.
- Ensure the allocation of work to the most suitably skilled employees is achieved.
- Continual review and development of processes.
- Develop the garage into an effective commercial business.
- To own all SHE matters within the specified work area and to comply with health, safety and environmental legislation.
- Manage and ensure compliance of the defect reporting procedure.
- Ensure budgetary targets are achieved.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience of working within a Customer focused environment.
- Knowledge of Construction and Use Regulations.
