Location: Brixworth, Northamptonshire
Kier Local Highways are recruiting for a Machine Operator to join the civil engineering team on the Northamptonshire Highways contract as a Skilled 360 Degree Excavator Driver to deliver the maintenance and construction of roads, footways, drainage and surfacing in the county of Northamptonshire.

Kier Highways design roads, bridges and intelligent transport systems (ITS), covering strategic and nationally important roads, as well as local roads serving local communities. Our projects range from major improvements to complete renewals of roads and structures. With specialist teams, we manage complex works from conception through to handover at the end of maintenance periods.
Key Responsibilities:
Working as part of a Civil Engineering Team as a Skilled Machine Operator carrying out excavations within the highway as well as loading and unloading of materials.
Placing, spreading, levelling and compaction of stone, coated materials, concrete, Asphalt etc to accurate levels.
Digging, forking, raking, seeding grass and other horticultural operations
Holds a CPCS or NPORS 360 Excavator Certificate. Preferably both below and above 10 tonnes.
Operation of light plant including compressors, rollers, mowers etc including responsibility for their daily maintenance.
Holds a licence for and drives vans, pickups and lorries under 7.5 tonnes GVW, tractors and attachments and tower wagons.
Assisting skilled operatives in kerbing, drainage, concrete work, flag and block paving, bricklaying, drainage works surface dressing and surfacing and surface repair of footways and bridleways.
Excavation of soil, rock, asphalt, concrete etc using hand and powered tools.
Hand sweeping, cleaning, litter picking, loading, unloading and general handling of materials and equipment.
Responsibility for guiding and instructing and leading operatives and trainees when required.
Wear the correct PPE and follow all safety rules and safe working practices.
Participate in winter maintenance and emergency standby and call out duties when required.
Work to KierWSP, Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards
Key Skills and Qualifications:
Previous experience of working within the Highways Construction Industry for an Upper Tier Contractor
Relevant CPCS Card
HGV Licence
First aid certificate
Other Plant Certificates i.e Twin Drum Roller/Dumper
Where appropriate holds certificates to operate two major pieces of plant or equipment
Competent at safely operating basic tools and equipment
Knowledge of Health and Safety in respect of self, the team and members of the public
Available for winter maintenance and call outs
Ability to respond to members of the public in a polite manner
Assist and mentor younger members of team whenever possible
Able to undertake their work activities in a safe manner in compliance with the KierWSP health and safety management system and not compromising the health and safety of their colleagues, subcontractors, the client and members of the public
