Assistant Engineer – Road Lighting

- Identify how information can be utilised to achieve specific project aims and how it will be applied throughout the engineering process.
- Work with the project teams and clients to ensure assigned problems or issues are defined well enough and that the requirement (brief) is fully understood.
- Identify and take account of relevant technical and engineering standards at all project stages.
- Provide advice and guidance to junior engineers and other members of the project team on matters within own specialism.
- Keep the Project Manager informed of approach obtaining approval and guidance where necessary.
- Carry out assigned tasks and duties as part of project team, to achieve time and cost targets set by Project Managers and to relevant standards. Lead the delivery of discrete tasks as required. Typical work areas to lead would be:
- Feasibility Studies
- Budgetary costings and support for business case development
- Design assessments and reviews
- Adherence to technical standards where applicable
- Development of new design standards and guidance
Key Skills / Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- HNC/HND or Degree or equivalent in appropriate discipline
- IEng or Engtech (or working towards this status) through a relevant institution
Knowledge / Experience:
- Understanding of the engineering and technical discipline, typically gained through training or experience.
- Specialist knowledge of the road lighting discipline, typically gained through advanced training or qualifications and experience.
- Conceptual understanding of the road lighting sector
- Knowledge of company disciplines and services.
- An understanding of supporting factors such as health and safety, quality management and environmental management systems
- An understanding of project management techniques and practices, including contractual and commercial issues, typically gained through experience.
Technical Skills:
- Good communication skills with fluent written and verbal English
- Ability to work on own initiative on technical matters and mange their own time and that of others.
- Desire to mentor, support and develop junior staff.
- Technical team management.
- Computing skills.
- Valid UK driving licence.
- Ability to work closely with internal and external Clients.
- Ability to project a positive company/ team image.
