Transport Manager Location: Midlands Area East and West Contract: Western Power Distrubution Kier Utilities is looking to recruit a Transport Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective and continuous control of vehicles and the transport activities of the Operator's Licence/s within the designated business area.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the compliance requirements of plant items and vehicles in a geographical area
Ensure all drivers of company vehicles are correctly inducted and authorised to drive
Provide advice and guidance to employees and other internal team regarding their fleet issues
Ensure that all staff suitably qualified, experienced and informed to meet requirements
Responsible for Driver Legislation and Policies - that they comply with Domestic Drivers' hours and/or EU Tachograph rules, are in the process of gaining or have acquired a driver CPC qualification, are fully inducted and that authorisation checks are carried out as scheduled
Establish agreements and ensure compliance with Working Time Directive legislation
Take appropriate action including disciplinary in event of driver infringements and faults.
Carry out thorough RTI investigation and provide assistance in TRC and vehicle related incident investigations
Assist SHE with investigations into serious non-compliance
Ensure that the vehicles are maintained properly, including the inspection of vehicles at the appropriate time and that there is an up-to-date scheduled maintenance planner
Take action and record the action/s to remedy defects found. This may be through third parties or in-house as directed/arranged
Ensure that vehicle defects are identified, recorded and reported by drivers daily
Ensure that where responsibility is delegated for daily checking/collection of defect data and of the actions and rectifications arising, there are appropriate checks and monitoring to ensure satisfactory delegation
Ensure accuracy checks of the collected data and that accurate records are compiled and maintained for the minimum statutory periods
Ensuring that any additional equipment used is calibrated and certified when required
Assist in the management of subcontractor workforce in respect of vehicle and plant compliance
Manage the vehicle tracker system for the local area of responsibility
Ensuring where required, the ADR requirements are fully met
Key Skills and Qualifications:
Hold a current certificate of professional competence (CPC) gained by examination (will be named on the company operator licence)
Holder of a Full EU Driving Licence for at least 2 years
Experience of compliant requirements of plant
HGV driver licence qualification and hold a full motor vehicle technician level City and Guild 3 or equivalent (desirable)
Hands on practical experience of all transport activities with working knowledge of current transport legislation
Detailed knowledge of DVSA regulatory requirements regarding O Licences and Fleet management activities in general
Good ability in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel
Excellent communicator with good influencing skills
Reliable, conscientious and co-operative
Ability to lead a team, work on own initiative and deliver key objectives
