We at Protocol are currently recruiting for a Head of Safeguarding and Welfare for a fantastic specialist college in the Central London area on a full-time permanent basis starting in January, 40 hours per week Monday - Friday with some occasional evening and weekend work.

The main activities and this role include supporting learners and following Safeguarding Regulations and the Designated Safeguarding Lead. With the support of a learner progression & support officer, you will be an internal liaison and help support learners at the college for welfare concerns, taking any action related to this remit in an appropriate manner. You will be responsible for the maintaining, updating, monitoring and reporting of the Safeguarding & Welfare Systems and ensure Policies are up to date, appropriate and implemented by ensuring staff have adequate training in line with the guidance.



Role responsibilities
To act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead for Safeguarding, ensuring that the College undertakes its statutory responsibilities maintaining the welfare of Children and Vulnerable Adults
To work as an effective and committed member of the overall college and E&T and Apprenticeship departments
To develop and implement robust attendance, retention and positive learner progression strategies ensuring that the learners have every possible chance to succeed and progress
To be responsible for the 'At Risk' engagement strategy encompassing the learner support fund and other financial support systems and 1:1 support services
To conduct reviews and audits of all Programme Areas and provision (including any sub-contract partners), including for example: annual curriculum and quality reviews, observation of teaching, learning and assessment, learning walks and internal verification to ensure learner engagement and participation meets the college's aspirational targets
To lead on the Education & Training and Apprenticeship team's effective use of all learner focused data, to ensure that it is used to inform and drive continuous quality improvement, for example; attendance, punctuality, retention, achievement, success, progression and learner feedback
To maintain effectively all internal and external audit tracking processes and procedures. You have a responsibility to highlight the need for any actions to the colleagues in a timely manner, implementing and monitoring any agreed actions
To contribute to senior management decisions on all aspects of policy, development or organisational and team structure
To ensure that you maintain current up-to-date knowledge of all government policy developments, funding body and audit requirements, sector skills councils and awarding organisations in relation to key areas of responsibility (ALS, Welfare, Safeguarding, Funding etc.)
Develop and maintain links with industry to ensure maximum benefit and opportunity to learners and maximise their career possibilities and enrichment opportunities
Maintain ALS, Welfare & Safeguarding information on the VLE and shared drives
Ensure maintenance and accuracy of all tracking systems within the department both computerised and manual to support internal and external requirements
Act as the designated member of for Looked after Children and Care leavers
To be the lead on the 'Praise, Suggestions & Complaints Procedure' and being the first point of contact for Talkback and referring/dealing with complaints/issues/appeals/warnings effectively in accordance with the college policy and procedures and liaising with relevant staff members where necessary.
Process and maintain financial support and bursary systems

The person & qualifications
A teaching qualification (minimum Cert Ed/PGCE) - Desirable
Child Protection/Safeguarding & Prevent training/Qualification
Vocationally competent in English and/or Maths to a Level 2
A proven track record and experience in being a Designated Safeguarding Lead within FE Skills Sector and effectively managing complex cases
A proven track record of maintaining financial and payment systems
Experience in advising strategies for lecturers to help support learners with ALS needs
Experience with ECHP's and taking relevant actions
Knowledge and experience with Welfare referral agencies and support networks to effectively support and refer learners for appropriate to their needs
Excellent IT skills to include Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Commitment to Programme success and user satisfaction
A strong orientation towards goal and target achievement on programme
