This is an opportunity to join an exciting new business within the Berkeley Group at an early
stage of the project. This strategic new venture is being established to produce volumetric
modules on behalf of Berkeley Group which are specifically designed and engineered for the
residential housing sector to help create high performing, high quality and comfortable
homes for people to enjoy living in.


As HSEQ Manager you will initially be responsible for helping create a 150,000 sq. ft. green
field advanced manufacturing facility and define the core Health & Safety, Environmental and
Quality frameworks within. These frameworks will include systems and processes to support
all operations, and will need to be closely integrated with all factory operations, factory
logistics and Berkeley Modular's installation site activities. The initial work will cover setting
up new systems of work to support production and help to maintain the factory
infrastructure, including assisting with the securing of ISO accreditations, supporting the
planning and project management of OEM's to install advanced production technologies into
the new manufacturing facility and eventually help to build and recruit the broader Berkeley
Modular team.


Once the factory is established, the focus will switch to ensure day-to-day that all BML's
operations are able to deliver to the required output levels, which will mean the facility and
associated advanced manufacturing technologies are kept operational at all times. As such,
the HSEQ manager will be responsible for supporting the business unit to deliver against our
sustainability and safety performance targets and manufactured product quality targets, It
will be essential to work very closely with other stakeholders from across the business
covering the technical, engineering, projects, finance and site logistics disciplines to
understand challenges that are faced and help develop and evolve robust solutions.


Initial Duties to Go-Live:

  • Responsible for fulfilling the role of company Quality, Health & Safety & Environmental expert, this is a hands on position through the lifecycle of the factory build, machinery install programme and into operation and delivery of the product
  • Assist with the Health and Safety, environmental and quality performance evaluation
  • of our potential supply chain partners
  • Develop programs to promote a positive culture towards HSEQ compliance from day one
  • Develop practical guidelines, preventative measures, company procedures, directives and policy ensuring a central point of best practice
  • Lead the design and implementation of all key Health and Safety and Quality management systems including ISO 9001, ISO18001 & ISO 45001
  • Co-ordinate and integrate all business unit policies with the wider Berkeley Group policies
  • Recruit the wider team to support the functional requirements of the business
  • Help to design and implement HSEQ best practice processes to support all operations
  • Help to create Standard Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments to support safe and efficient production operations
  • Play an active role in the manufacturing facility commissioning process, including programme of sample production / prototyping


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified in an Engineering discipline
  • NEBOSH diploma or equivalent
  • Ideally experience of HSEQ programme development within a green field factory environment
  • Minimum 3 years of experience within complex manufacturing environments
  • Fully conversant in ISO 9001 / ISO14001 / ISO45001 standard requirements, plus exposure to construction environments
  • Proven track record of introducing continuous improvement and HSEQ systems into a manufacturing company
  • Strong exposure to the development of cross-functional processes within a complex environment
  • Experience of process development and implementation of process improvement methodologies
  • Excellent knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools
