We are working with a fantastic college in South West London who are looking for a Learner Mentor for an immediate start. This role is for an immediate start and the contract will be ongoing until end of May 2019 could be longer for the right candidate. The college are offering an hourly rate of between £12 to £13.50 + holiday pay. The pastoral tutor will be working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9-5 with 1 hour's unpaid break.

Role responsibilities
To conduct individual tutorials and set in partnership with the student, course teams and other stakeholders (including, for example, employers, social care and parents) challenging SMART targets to support progression
To motivate each individual learner within a caseload and to monitor their progress against their targets including rigorously tracking and monitoring the attendance of each student across all elements of their programme (including Maths & English as appropriate)
To deliver and facilitate group activities which support the development of personal employability/work readiness skills, knowledge and skills related to the College's Core Values and British Values statement.
To ensure learners have undergone appropriate initial and diagnostic assessments and are receiving appropriate levels of support (e.g. ALS).
To set up regular 1:1 monitoring meetings with learners who are at risk and with their parents/carers and colleagues to ensure the learner


The person & qualifications
Recent experience of working with young people aged 14-19 on study programmes Experience of classroom delivery recent relevant experience of working with students with learning difficulties and disabilities in a pastoral capacity linking with agencies

Educated to Level 3 or above First Aid qualification or the willingness to undergo training Educated to level 2 or equivalent in English and Mathematics (or to achieve BKSB equivalent within six weeks of appointment)

High level of computer literacy Solutions provider, focused on outcomes and able to work on own initiative

Able to use initiative, organise and prioritise Commitment to and promotion of safeguarding the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and an understanding of the safeguarding practices applicable to working within a College A broad knowledge of equality issues and the issues facing young people in post 16 education and the ability to implement equal opportunities

Ability to relate to and motivate young people from diverse backgrounds and with diverse educational experiences - challenging poor behaviour where necessary

Ability to work as part of a team Ability to deliver tutorial materials (British values, study skills, career education, personal development, etc.)

Ability to communicate effectively with a range of students both on an individual basis and in group setting

Commitment to establishing and maintaining good working relations with colleagues and students Evidence of commitment to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children and vulnerable adults Commitment to the provision of a quality service and the implementation of quality improvements

Commitment to valuing diversity and British values Able to work flexibly throughout the week including evening and some weekend work (DESIRABLE Level 3 Coaching/Mentoring qualification)
