Introduction:
Kier Strategic Highways are looking to recruit an Environmental Advisor to join the Area 3 contract for Highways England.
Kier Highways design roads, bridges and intelligent transport systems (ITS), covering strategic and nationally important roads, as well as local roads serving local communities. Our projects range from major improvements to complete renewals of roads and structures. With specialist teams, we manage complex works from conception through to handover at the end of maintenance periods.
Key Responsibilities:
Collation of data relating to carbon reporting to Highways England, and sustainability reporting for Kier Highways and Kier Group.
Responsible for depot environmental audit programme and undertake audits.
Monitor and action new regulations and legislation relating to depots.
Monitor and analyse energy, waste and water use in the depots.
Identify and support initiatives to improve energy, waste and water through the Sustainability Group.
Support Area 3 Tree Inspector with maintaining tree register and actions required following routine tree inspections.
Administering the environmental complaints using the customer complaints database system.
Liaison with Highways England litter lead and Local Authority managers relating to litter issues on the Area 3 Network.
Maintain the Environmental Assessment Register and assist with environmental assessment of schemes where required.
Assist in the provision of Environment Team administration duties.
Contribute to the provision of environmental awareness training (tool box talks, noticeboard bulletins etc.) as required.
Administrator for Highways England Supply Chain Portal for environmental schemes.
Adopt and implement the client's Policies and Strategic Environmental Plan, promoting environmental principles and best practice with both Highways England and Kier Highways Area 3 Team.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
Understanding of waste management requirements required under legislation.
Knowledge of sustainability issues particularly waste, energy and carbon related.
Good organisational and administrative skills.
Essential: IT, numeracy and literacy skills, able to operate spreadsheet systems, input, extract and present complex data to communicate with others.
Desirable: knowledge of environmental permitting regulations, inspection/auditing experience, experience of environmental impact assessments for highways schemes
