Introduction:

Kier Strategic Highways are looking to recruit an Engineer - Road lighting to join the Highways team in the Design Services Business.

Kier Highways design roads, bridges and intelligent transport systems (ITS), covering strategic and nationally important roads, as well as local roads serving local communities. Our projects range from major improvements to complete renewals of roads and structures. With specialist teams, we manage complex works from conception through to handover at the end of maintenance periods.

Key responsibilities:

· Identify how information can be utilised to achieve specific project aims and how it will be applied throughout the engineering process.

· Identify and take account of relevant technical and engineering standards at all project stages.

· Undertake a key role within road lighting projects to deliver high quality of service consistent with best practice. Work within parameters set by the Client. Typical work areas would be:

  • Feasibility Studies
  • Design assessments and reviews
  • Adherence to technical standards where applicable
  • Development of new design standards and guidance
  • · Define and establish task methodologies to achieve client requirements or as part of a wider project need. Estimate resource and programme requirements based on defined work scopes.


    · Consistently deliver clear, concise and timely communications, ensuring parties have a shared understanding by confirming, clarifying and recording matters in relation to scope and timing of deliverables.

    Skills and experience required:
  • HNC/HND or equivalent in appropriate discipline
  • Working towards an appropriate professional qualification.
  • Thorough understanding of the engineering and technical discipline, typically gained through training, experience or advanced qualification.
  • Experience within the road lighting environment.
  • Broad understanding of the road lighting sector, experience of wider industry interest groups.
  • Knowledge and experience of the supporting factors such as health and safety, quality management and environmental management systems.
  • Valid UK driving licence.
