  • Are you a Design Manager with experience in housing?
  • Does the idea of leaving the rush hour behind appeal?
  • Do you have both experience and enthusiasm for the offsite construction / MMC industry? (eg timber frame, CLT, SIPS, modular building or similar)?
  • Do you enjoy regular contact with project stakeholders, helping to educate in the particular requirements for offsite / MMC?


We are working with a manufacturer of factory-built modular buildings and extensions supplying both residential and commercial projects, encompassing single, double and multi-storey. Working in the Timber Frame side of the business, they now seek a Design Technician to join their growing company and team on the Welsh/Herefordshire border. The company has excellent financial backing, and providing an exciting opportunity for a Designer from housebuilding, timber frame, building services etc at just the right point in their growth, where you will play a key role and growing your career at the same time.

This role will give you the chance to get involved in the hands-on design of factory-built houses, as well as managing the output and activities of your small inhouse team and those of consultants and subcontractors. You will be required to ensure that all players are fully briefed for the requirements of the project, particularly taking into account the manufacturing process (many of your subcontractors are from traditional construction/housebuilding). This is a very hands-on role, you will be required to "get in the trenches and lead within it".

Are you:

  • Experienced in the design of system buildings, eg timber frame, SIPS, modular building, volumetric, light gauge steel etc
  • Familiar with the relationship between the design, manufacturing and construction activities of a project?
  • Able to find your way around UK Building Regulations and standards?
  • Confident in your ability to educate your colleagues in the specific requirements for offsite / MMC?
  • Able to lead and inspire others, whether located in the same office or more remote?
  • Possessing a "can-do" attitude?
  • Able to use 3D CAD software? (specific software packages can be taught - your understanding of offsite construction is key with this role)
