The Role: Chief Engineer - Mechanical

You will be responsible for initiating and taking concepts to production. Responsible for coordination of a multi-site mechanical engineering team of engineers and technicians across various projects. Supporting electrical development, prototype and research teams / functions within the engineering group.

Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering, you will have the following key responsibilities:-

    Management of the mechanical engineering teams day to day activities to develop safe, efficient and effective products that meet aggressive cost and performance targets.

    Planning and management of engineering projects from concept through launch and across the life of the product

    Coordination and management of the entire mechanical engineering teams activities to ensure project delivery

    Strategically plan and budget for the departments activities to ensure ongoing compliance and capability growth

    Support the sales, operations and quality teams to ensure world class manufacturing

    Design of new products using SolidWorks CAD software and FEA package

    Use of advanced CAE tools such as CFD and structural optimisation software

The Right Person

The successful Chief Engineer will have performed all of the above duties within an Automotive environment, a minimum of 5 years experience of managing a team as well as the following skills and experience:-

    Minimum 2:1 degree or equivalent in mechanical, mechatronic or similar discipline

    Minimum of 7 years mechanical engineering / mechatronics experience

    Driven by problem solving, often from first principles engineering, with an eye for detail and a proven talent for meeting deadlines

    Comfortable with product development requiring electrical and control systems interfaces

    A skilled user of CAD software with a good understanding of FEA

    A strong background in product launch through an APQP type process using project planning, DFM, FMEA, Control Plans and DVP&R

Desirable Skills

    Experience of working in the Motorsport industry

    Practical experience in precision manufacturing processes (casting, forging, machining, plating, finishing)

    Working understanding of electrical control systems (open and closed loop control), their functions and calibration.
