Our Scotland East Division, located in Livingston is looking to recruit a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join the Division’s Commercial department. Bellway will be working in partnership with Heriot Watt University and we are offering a day release scheme to obtain a Degree in Surveying. The Role This role of Trainee Quantity Surveyor is responsible for assisting the management of commercial aspects of our regional developments. This includes managing the costs for each site and ensuring that targets are met by managing and controlling budgets. The Trainee Quantity Surveyor reports to the Chief Surveyor. Principle accountabilities of the Trainee Quantity Surveyor role include: Produce sub-contract payments and final accounts, ensuring that the sub-contractor has signed these off. Produce sub-contract orders, ensuring they are authorised by the authorised representative, together with all necessary documentation. Complete on-site measurements and assess payments to contractors. Attend and contribute to various meetings, such as pre-order meetings as well as external contractors. Manage sub-contract orders on site, meeting sub-contractors as and when required. Maintain trade specifications. Price customer extras and liaise with sales department as necessary. Assist with material buying when required. Assist the Estimator and / or Commercial Manager with take-off’s for land appraisals when required Experience, Qualifications and Skills Experience Experience in the industry is beneficial but not mandatory. This is an opportunity for someone looking to start a career as a Surveyor. Qualifications and Training Year 1: SQA Highers at AAAB or BBBBC; A-Levels at ABC or BBB. Year 2: SQA Advanced Highers at BB and SQA Highers at BBC in other subjects; A-Levels at ABB; HNC at A; HND at BB. Skills and Aptitude Strong communication and listening skills, with good negotiation skills Motivated and keen to learn new skills Ability to work well as part of a team Good attention to detail IT literate with the ability to adapt to new systems Committed to diversity and inclusion The Role and Working Conditions Willing to be flexible in respect to day to day duties. Office based role, with travel within the Divisional area. Ability to travel to development sites as and when required.
