Breedon is a leading construction materials group in the UK and Ireland. We operate two cement plants, around 80 quarries, 40 asphalt plants, 170 ready-mixed concrete and mortar plants, nine concrete and clay products plants, four contract surfacing businesses, six import/export terminals and two slate production facilities.
Breedon Southern Ltd are currently recruiting for a Transport Manager based at our Willington Quarry Offices in Bedfordshire. Reporting to the Head of Logistics, the Transport Manager will be responsible for the Transport Fleet in our Southern region.
The key responsibilities of the role are as follows:
- Ensure the company operates safely, fully complies with DVSA regulations and the operators' licence is current and up to date.
- Ensure all company vehicles are serviced and maintained to a high standard and total compliance achieved.
- Ensure all drivers are compliant with driver time directive and tachographs.
- Responsible for all haulier & maintenance contracts and ensuring they are kept up to date.
- Responsible for the audit and upkeep of all transport processes and procedures.
- Responsible for the compliance and safe operation of the owner driver/contract haulier fleet.
- Maximising the efficiency of the company and contracted fleet.
- Liaise with the administration teams, to ensure all hire and company vehicles are insured and to sort out any queries, claims or problems we may encounter.
- Coach, develop and manage a high performing team that meets agreed objectives and delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements
- Report on departmental objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with all connected with the transport process
- Support new business initiatives and projects and contribute to review meetings and change process. Ensure effective transport implementation takes place relating to the changes
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate expert knowledge of managing a company fleet, owner drivers and contract hauliers and hold an International Transport Managers CPC (Road Haulage). You will have strong IT knowledge, project management and commercial and financial acumen. You will be self-motivated, flexible, proactive and able to comply with the Health, Safety and Environmental Policy.
