In order to drive continued sustained improvement an experienced Design Team Leader with extensive timber construction industry knowledge is required to lead the Estimating & Design team of a leading timber engineering specialist.


Located in purpose-built sites strategically positioned across the UK our client is renowned for its team of timber engineering experts, the very latest manufacturing processes, integrated supply chains and strong environmental credentials. With an extensive product range including Roof Trusses, Spandrel Panels, I-Joists, Metal Web Joists, Floor Cassettes and Roof Cassette, they pride themselves on achieving timber engineering excellence.
In order to uphold this well-earned reputation, our client is looking for a dynamic Estimating & Design Team Leader to support team members in providing quotes, designs, prices and outstanding customer service.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support and develop team members, including HR and people management activities
  • Distribute and log personal and team workload using current systems
  • Ensure team output is compliant with company and regulatory requirements
  • Identify KPI's and communicate to, and support your team in achievement
  • Keep abreast of industry, economic and company developments, disseminate this to your team
  • Identify and act upon potential project issues
  • Provide exceptional customer service and act as a point of escalation to resolve more complex issues, including site visits if required
  • Liaise with commercial, sales and operational teams
  • Personally, contribute to branch success by ensuring you and your team assess customer enquiries using statistics and tools available, to meet KPI's including sales value, margin and hit rate
  • Prepare accurate designs to contribute to your team's success



Skills & Experiences

  • Previous experience in a similar estimating and design based role within the timber roofing industry.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage competing demands for the team
  • Proficient design technology as well as Microsoft Office
  • Sense of responsibility and takes ownership of tasks and team effectiveness
  • Use of MiTek suite of programmes
  • Substantial design and estimating experience
  • An in-depth understanding and knowledge of the products and services the business offers, as well as the design process and methodology
  • An in-depth understanding of how markets, customers and external influences affect the business objectives
  • Effective workload management
  • Budget and KPI tracking, activity alignment
  • An in-depth understanding of the relevant building codes
  • Assessing customer requirements and building trust and confidence
  • Commercial awareness of the market and environment in which the business operates
