We are currently looking for a Design Team Leader, who will be able to drive the business forward, they must be fully conversant with Highways England's 3D passport process. The new Design Team Leader will need to be competent or have working knowledge of Highways England value management guidance process. They will ideally need to be working towards or hold a Pavement Engineer Certificate (with The Institute of Asphalt Technology) Duties will include contributing to and leading on the successful delivery of the programme of work by feasibility studies, scheme identification, designing, developing and overseeing sound design solutions to meet client requirements within budget and timescale, following Kier processes and procedures as well as any Client specific requirements. The new team member will be carrying out the checking and certifying of feasibility deliverables (including drawings specifications, certificates, reports and contract documents), and authorising where appropriate. Other responsibilities will be providing techinical leadership to projects. The role will also be centred around the creation and overseeing of feasibility / designs that comply with relevant health and safety legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations.A key part of the role will be developing, designing and reviewing solutions in accordance to national design standards, procedures and requirements and any specific parameters. Production of scheme documents including BoQs and reports in accordance with the relevant contract. Being a Team Leader, it will be important to provide management and supervision of staff including resource monitoring, health and safety compliance and quality and delivery. Stakeholder management skills are crucial, it will be expected to contribute to the regular reporting of progress to external and internal clients and communicating with internal line managers regarding progress against planned programme. What do we need from you to be successful in this role?

  • Degree/Higher National Certificate or Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent with appropriate experience
  • C Eng/I Eng with appropriate Institution (ICE, CIHT, RGS, CIWEM) desirable or working towards achieving this
  • Strong technical skills and experience of highways maintenance and feasibility/design is preferred
  • Experience in developing VM summary/contract documents in accordance with relevant contracts
  • Good working knowledge of the DMRB along with other relevant standards and guidance notes
  • Able to work with or advise clients on technical issues at a senior level
  • Good working knowledge of H&S procedures and CDM Regulations
  • Computer literate with competent ability and knowledge of MS Office Suite
