The Capital Projects Team work on refurbishment and new build construction projects across the Blue Light, Health, Education, Retail, Commercial & Residential sectors with values up to £15 million on a national basis. The activities we undertake range from the design and delivery of complex refurbishment and new build projects up to the value of £15m, where we are able to utilise our team's broad skills base, through to small regional projects for valued customers.

As part of the Kier Places division, our Kier Capital Projects businesses in the North are geographically responsible for everything north of the M25, with occasional work in the South for existing clients. Kier Places are recruiting for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our passionate Capital Projects North Team. With our diverse portfolio of projects, we are looking for an individual who has a passion for the project at hand, and securing work, whilst also being able to work as part of a closely knit team that has the opportunity to develop and control its own destiny. We understand this approach is essential to ensure we consistently win work and secure repeat business.


Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be part of a small team dedicated to the pre-construction and delivery process of either two stage or single stage opportunities. You will be expected to commercially manage all aspects of these opportunities / projects and your key responsibilities will be to manage the upstream Client account, effectively manage costs, drive profitability, manage risk in a safe, effective and ethical manner; and be responsible for identifying new commercial opportunities in the area and managing relationships with the Client and the appointed professional team.

You will oversee the appointment & management of subcontractors for successful delivery of cost, quality and duration, have accountability for pricing of additional works, resolve any contractual issues from our client and supply chain; and take ownership of Value Cost Reconciliation, forecasts, financial reports and contract reviews, to produce the required Commercial Plans in line with our Business Plan.


What do we need from you?

The successful Senior Quantity Surveyor candidate will be a commercially focused, self-motivated individual who can manage, lead and execute our vision. Collaborative working with all external and internal stakeholders will be crucial, and experience of building effective working relationships with Senior Management and Directors, and experience of delivering projects under JCT and NEC Forms of Contract will be essential. You should have relevant construction experience to the Capital Projects business unit, especially with occupied residential buildings.
