Maintenance Operative / Handyperson
Location: Colchester Primary Care Centre + Fryatt Hospital, Harwich
Business Area: Kier Places - Facilities Management - C&T NHS LIFT
Contract & hours: Permanent, full time, Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm + out of hours standby & callout. We can offer some flexibility over start and finish hours, which can be discussed in the recruitment process.

Kier Places are recruiting today for a Handyperson / Maintenance Operative, where your role will be key to supporting the delivery of a Facilities Management Hard & Technical Services solution for our prestigious client, the NHS. You will be providing planned & reactive general maintenance across two Healthcare sites, Colchester & Harwich.
Key Responsibilities
This Handyperson / Maintenance Operative role will carry out general, small repairs working on our FM contract we hold with the NHS. This is a mobile role that covers 2 Healthcare properties, Colchester & Harwich.
You will carry out maintenance such as fixing loose carpeting, hanging and re-fixing items to walls, patching paintwork and minor drain blockages, toilet seat re-fixing and replacements, re-fixing door handles, loose hinges/items, replace slats in blinds, shower fixings and rails. Small scale movement of furniture and boxes will also be a requirement. This is not an exhaustive list, but as you can see the role will carry out a varying degree of maintenance work.
What do we need from you?
The ideal Handyperson / Maintenance Operative will be someone with previous experience in a similar all-round general maintenance role and be comfortable working within occupied properties. Whilst you should have the capability to attempt light plumbing repairs and general lamp replacement, it would be a bonus if you have water hygiene training; however, this can be something the successful applicant can be trained up on.
You will need to have outstanding communication skills and a proactive attitude, alongside some experience within the Building Services, Facilities Management or Property Maintenance sector.
