Energy Specialist Buyer

We are seeking an Energy Specialist Buyer to work out of Hope Cement Works, in Derbyshire. Reporting directly into the Head of Procurement, the Energy Specialist Buyer will lead the operational procurement and management activities of electricity, gas, alternative fuels, coal etc. for the Cement business within the Breedon Group as well as supporting other parts of the wider Breedon Group in such matters.

You will be responsible for securing the energy supplies, ensuring accurate product availability, managing supplier performance, reviewing KPIs and ensuring procurement plans are shared internally with key stakeholders. You will be pinnacle in driving cost savings and continuous improvement whilst maintaining technically compliant supply. The role will be required to work within a budgeted framework to identify and implement best value solutions for all relevant requirements of the organisation.

Duties will include:

  • Define, set and implement the procurement strategy for the direct and indirect commodities allocated.
  • Strategic sourcing of both Direct and Indirect materials and services across the UK business units, in order to achieve tangible validated cost savings, whilst ensuring ethical practices are applied.
  • Build relationships with key business stakeholders and suppliers to drive value around the strategic objectives of the business.
  • End to end sourcing of allocated commodities from project inception, sourcing, tendering, contract negotiation, execution, implementation and performance management of contracts and suppliers.
  • Managing, collating, and evaluating resources/information, measuring activities through the use of Performance Scorecards/Targets and Milestones.
  • Manage supplier performance.
  • Energy management including compliance and meter operators.
  • Bulk fuel procurement.
  • Fuel cards.
  • Meter operator provider.
  • Alternative fuels and alternative raw materials .
  • Conventional fuels (including coal).
  • Manage risk profile for area of responsibility.
  • Work in line with all Company Health, Safety & Wellbeing policies, procedures and standards.

Skills/knowledge:

  • Proven experience and understanding of key energy markets including electricity, alternative fuels (for manufacturing) and fossil fuels including coal, gas and liquid transport fuels, and well informed in trajectory of energy markets
  • Detail orientated and analytical, with ability to navigate complex data sets and contractual agreement.
  • Proven experience of working collaboratively with numerous stakeholders at any given time (internally & externally) to achieve best outcomes.
  • Excellent communicator, verbal and written
  • Highly skilled in commercial negotiation based on a wider understanding of business impacts
  • A self-starter who can autonomously time manage, prioritise, produce, and provide visibility to key outcomes.
  • Evidence of influencing and driving continuous improvement.
  • Learning from and working with other disciplines to deliver outstanding outcomes internally and externally.
  • DESIRABLE: An understanding of the fundamentals of the manufacturing process impacts and wider implications of energy related decision making.

The successful candidate will have proven category management and outstanding procurement experience, being able to successfully establish close networks with both internal and external stakeholders, perform market analysis, new vendor pre-qualifications and develop sourcing strategies and tactics.
