We design, manage and maintain geotechnical assets on the road network. As part of our in-house road designer team, we also have access to construction professionals and therefore a unique perspective on how things get built and the practicality of design for construction.

We are now recruiting for an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Highways team. Our team is dispersed across a number of offices in the southern half of England and Wales, where the successful candidate could be based. Note that the role involves some fieldwork, so you will need to be able to work outdoors for extended periods.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Engineer this is a leading role in a small team. You will be providing a guiding role in producing designs, reports and specifications for new construction, plus geotechnical appraisals of defects and repairs. Works may include ground investigations; repair works or design of new construction.

You will be working directly with clients and project managers to develop scheme briefs and budgets. You'll also be supporting the client's geotechnical advisors and lead the inspection of the earthworks asset. You will be expected to support the development of junior colleagues within the geotechnical team.

What do we need from you?

  • Minimum of BEng Civil Engineering or BSc Geology / Earth Science or related subjects
  • Experience in the application of the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges and the Specification for Highways Works and experience of ground investigation process
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civils3D and / or OpenGround (or other geotechnical databases)
  • Knowledge of the design of slope & retaining walls, foundations, road pavement and reinforced earth design; rock slope management
  • A full UK driving licence
