Title: Design Manager
Location: TempsfordThe Design Manager will be a member of the engineering support team who will assist with all aspects of civil engineering design work for the delivery of sub-station works for the National Grid. This role will involve working collaboratively with the Kier project teams, our JV partners Siemens, Clients, designers employed by the contractor, specialist and other subcontractors, suppliers, and relevant third parties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Site inspections
- Input to Briefs for structural investigations, surveys and monitoring
- Preparation of detailed design briefs to designers & subcontractors
- Detailed design planning & assisting planner in programming
- Designer liaison including design review meetings, progress & performance reporting, and design change
- Liaison with Clients, approval bodies and other relevant third parties
- Liaison with project tender staff to ensure understanding of tender design basis for price & programme
- Liaison with project construction staff to ensure buildability, programme coordination, and quality
- Preparation of analytical & interpretative reports on technical and commercial factors
- Review of designs on behalf of the contractor, including checking technical documentation
- Input into commercial submissions and estimates
- Participation in value engineering meetings
- Chairing design management meetings
- A strong background in civil engineering or building environment
- Previous experience of working with National Grid or on electrical infrastructure an advantage
- Recent experience as part of a management team on civil engineering design and/or construction projects
- Experience of undertaking civils and/or building design in a design office environment preferred
- Graduate engineer with or working towards professional qualification preferred
- Awareness of the commercial factors applicable to tendering & value engineering
- Experience in checking design drawings and raising technical queries
- Knowledge of BIM processes and ability to use BIM model viewing software
- Familiarity with structural design software preferred
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, and work in collaboration with other team members
- Willingness to travel periodically throughout UK, and to designers offices
- Previous experience of detailed design coordination for a contractor or consultant is essential to the role.
