WLC Measurement Lead
Working Patterns: Laing O'Rourke has a hybrid working model which is centred around managing energy and promoting sustainable performance in role. This role will require travel and overnight stays - enabling you to immerse yourself in our people and the great work they do across our projects. The frequency will be determined by workload and requirements.
The role of Whole-Life Carbon Measurement Lead is vital in realising our mission and if we are to be 'first and fast' to capitalise on the opportunity to decarbonise the built environment we need to strengthen the capacity and capabilities within the technical team to drive forward whole life decarbonisation [embodied, operational and maintenance emissions].
The new position will be embedded within the wider sustainability function, in the decarbonisation team, working directly for the Technical Leader - Carbon Solutions alongside Whole-Life Carbon Reduction and Transformation leads. By leading development and implementation of our measurement roadmap, this role is vital in enabling our business to understand and validate our project carbon emissions, important groundwork for our decarbonisation efforts.
The role will support the business in driving our ambitions to deliver decarbonised solutions and the technical functions commitment to Zero safety incidents - Zero quality issues - Net Zero Carbon.
Key Deliverables and Accountabilities
- Work with the Technical Leader for Carbon Solutions and WLC Measurement Engineer to develop a whole life carbon measurement roadmap for all project types and stages and across all disciplines; lead annual update of this roadmap
- Collaborate in the development and implementation of whole life carbon measurement tools for all disciplines (preferring digital resources), together with technical solutions, digital, procurement and commercial teams, and project PTL's
- Establish processes for whole life carbon measurement (i.e. whole life carbon project playbook and carbon plans) to be managed by Project technical Leaders
- Formulate a Responsibility Matrix (RACI) for project teams to identify measurement and tracking responsibilities across the project lifecycle and map indicative additional resource requirements at project level
- Collaborate on Scope 3 data capture and drive collection of real data on LOR product set and sample of projects process
- Contribute responses relating to whole life carbon measurement in work winning activities in coordination with other disciplines
- Learn and operate carbon measurement software, both OneClick and eTool, sufficient to provide outputs for inclusion in bids or to validate values for contracts
- Coordinate internal knowledge groups on carbon measurement as well as contribute to staff training process
- Produce of technical standards and LMRs in relation to whole life carbon measurement process with the support of the Technical Leader - Carbon Solutions
- Engage and support factory teams to collect and estimate carbon impacts of products, driving them towards production of EPDs
- Work with internal stakeholders, supply-chain partners and design consultants to obtain / improve carbon information and build processes to automate data capture, sharing and audit
- Suggest areas/ideas for change throughout the whole project value chain, for instance requirements for input into the design partner framework or areas for supply chain engagement
- Support engagement with clients and other industry stakeholders to understand their measurement ambitions, drivers and requirements, continuously feeding them into our plans
Technical Capabilities / Keys Skills / Qualifications / Experience and Personal Attributes
- Desirable to have a minimum of 5-10 years' experience working within design/engineering delivery
- Experience of carbon measurement principles and techniques
- Experience of multi-disciplinary design or delivery
- Architecture / Engineering Degree with Master's preferred, or equivalent experience
