We have an exciting opportunity to join Breedon Group, the UK's largest independent construction materials group, at our Hope Cement Works located in the heart of the Peak District National Park.

We are currently seeking a Process Engineer to join our Projects Engineering department who are responsible for the management of Capital funded projects. Projects range from sustainability focused projects to strict sustaining projects, meaning this role offers the opportunity for an interesting and varied work portfolio.

Hope Cement Works has been in operation since 1929 and has strong links to the local area and community. We are looking for a motivated and passionate engineer to complement our Projects engineering team at Hope Works. The successful candidate will be responsible for both leading projects and contributing process engineering knowledge, skills, and experience to other relevant projects and at times, operational topics.

Key responsibilities for the position include:

  • Actively contribute to the safe delivery of projects by promoting positive behavioural safety, and ensuring work is executed to maintain or improve site standards with respect to Environmental, Health and Safety and Quality
  • Lead / manage CAPEX projects, ensuring projects comply with CDM 2015 regulations, industrial standards and Breedon management processes
  • Liaison with, and the supervision of, contractors and suppliers
  • Process equipment design and review, including P&ID, process flow chart and FDS reviews along with Operational and Engineering teams
  • Executing and supervising site surveying, design work, including dimensions, services etc
  • Lead / participation in HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA and other Process Safety related studies as required
  • Participation in process efficiency assessments, de-bottlenecking reviews and associated coordination and management of action plans
  • Lead / coordinate the full commissioning of new equipment with suppliers, contractors and Breedon customer teams, including the compilation of commissioning risk assessments and commissioning plans
  • Maintaining effective logs of change
  • Maintaining familiarity with site information (site plans, asbestos register etc) in the context of project delivery

Qualifications/Skills/knowledge required:

  • +5 years or substantial project engineering experience
  • Chemical or Process Engineering Degree
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate
  • IOSH Managing safely
  • APM, Prince2 or equivalent project management qualification
  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) qualification or CDM 2015 related training. Sound familiarisation of CDM 2015 requirements
  • Proven cost and budget management skills
  • Contractor management and resource planning ability
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail with the ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse group of people
  • Strong presentation skills
  • An understanding of business management systems including relevant Standards e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001
  • Capable of focussing on risk analysis and mitigation of risk by design
  • A working knowledge of relevant Standards relating to the process element of projects
  • Excellent engagement skills with a focus on listening and incorporating (internal) customer requirements
  • Great knowledge of core IT systems, including MS Word, Teams, Outlook, Excel, Project, Visio & AutoCAD (2D) software
  • Practical problem-solving approach to design
  • Flexible attitude towards work to reflect commitments under our Union Agreement
