Summary
Gleeson are looking to appoint a Senior Ecologist to work in our Group/Central Services Land and Planning function from our head office in Sheffield.
Whilst the role is office based, it is envisaged that regular visits to our nine regional offices will be key and site visits common place.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the Group's consistent approach to scheme design from an ecology perspective and specifically how to achieve 10% Biodiversity Net Gain. In addition, site specific ecology/biodiversity assessment duties to inform land bids and planning applications will be a key function of the role.

Main Responsibilities
Reporting to the Group Planning Director, key duties will include:
- Incorporating ecology and biodiversity gain into the heart of Gleeson site design, working with Gleeson Land and Planning staff along with external consultants (primarily architects) to achieve this.
- Analysing biodiversity net gain requirements for existing land opportunities with a view to identifying and agreeing appropriate mitigation and "solutions" to meet these.
- Carrying out initial assessments of new land bid opportunities with a view to identifying potential biodiversity net gain requirements and potential solutions, along with other ecological constraints.
- Explore and develop relationships with strategic partners/bodies in order to ascertain "business wide" solutions.
- Assisting with planning applications to ensure ecological design features and mitigation measures are appropriately incorporated and responding to consultee comments to agree final designs/solutions.
- Working with the Group Estimating Manager in determining the most cost effective solutions for schemes and costing up such outcomes including considering alternative approaches to determine the best way forward.
Ideal Candidate
- S strong track record of working as an ecologist for either a developer or ecological consultant
- A full UK driving licence (essential)
- University degree in a relevant field or other professional qualification is preferable
