We are Kier, one of the UK's leading construction and infrastructure services, working on projects such as Strategic and Local Highways.

We are now recruiting for a Design Engineer to join our Highways team in Birmingham to provide technical support on various contract within Kier Design & Technology Services such as Local Authority Highway Works, National Highway Area & Regional Contracts particularly Major Projects A66 NTP and M6 Emergency Laybys.


Key Responsibilities


In this exciting Design Engineer role, you'll prepare preliminary and detailed designs in accordance with approved design procedures for local and national authorities and provide support to the Design Team Leader on a various design duties including production of design schedules, Health, Safety and Welfare contract documentation and reviewing and amending design drawings. You'll also carry out technical and feasibility studies and draw up proposals that satisfy the client's technical specifications and assess potential risks, materials and costs. In addition, you'll provide advice and resolve creatively any emerging problems/deficiencies and comply with Kier's & Clients guidelines and regulations including permits, safety and deliver technical files and other technical documentation as required.


What do we need from you?


  • Chartered member accreditation - Recommended / Working towards
  • Meng/BEng (or equivalent) degree and significant relevant experience
  • Experience of mentoring and/or coaching less experienced staff
  • Demonstrate developed experience within a Civil Engineer role or equivalent
  • Undertake project related tasks associated with health, safety, and welfare
  • Ability to develop schemes designs with support from Graduates and Assistant Engineers
  • Ability to solve problems in collaboration with your team, clients, and stakeholders
