Breedon is a leading constructions materials group in Great Britain and Ireland, with around 1 billion tonnes of mineral Reserves and Resources. Breedon has a strong growth strategy having significantly expanded in 2020/21 with the acquisition of the Cemex assets, delivering an additional 170 million tonnes.

We are seeking an Asphalt & Aggregates Technical Supervisor to join our team based at Raisby, covering the North of England area.

The successful candidate will ensure a team of Technicians effectively carry out routine testing and inspections of Asphalt & Aggregates to a consistently high standard. You will also provide support to the Operations and Sales Teams for Asphalt and Aggregates. This role will be customer facing with regards to complaint handling, and pro-active product development.

Reporting to the Area Technical Manager, the key responsibilities of the role will be:-

  • Ensure full compliance with test frequencies, and monitor OCL levels
  • Monitor and assess quality of work by Technicians to ensure sampling, testing, inspection and reporting of finished products and associated raw materials is in accordance with procedures, standards and frequencies
  • Working closely with Operational colleagues, taking a proactive approach to reporting results, trends and resolving potential problems
  • Produce monthly reports on the quality of all products
  • Host internal and external Technician/ Laboratory audits as required
  • Oversee lab facilities and equipment. Ensure all equipment is available and calibrated at all times, kept in good condition, and paper and electronic records are held securely.
  • Undertake calibrations as necessary. Ensure all BSi and UKAS requirements are met
  • Provide Supervision and Coaching to all staff based in your area to reach optimum performance of each individual in your team
  • Proactive approach to SHE. Ensure method statements & risk assessments are available and followed for all regular tasks. Produce risk assessments for any additional tasks as required.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A good understanding of SHE policy & procedures and reporting requirements
  • Strong knowledge of testing methods used in Asphalt & Aggregates, along with Quality Assurance systems and procedures
  • An understanding of production methods used for all products and awareness of Company product range
  • Working knowledge of Gradlab is essential, and Lastrada is desirable as well as an understanding of OCL
  • Planning, organisation and time management skills
  • Coaching skills
  • Full clean driving license
  • Vocational qualifications in Quarrying and/or Asphalt (desirable)
  • Membership of IAT and/or IOQ (desirable)
