Portakabin is currently recruiting for a Chargehand to join our progressive Hire Division in Hayes. You will supervise, motivate and organise Trade and Process Workers to achieve the delivery of a quality product. This is focused on Divisional standards that are set by agreed timescales on a daily basis, ensuring what has been confirmed to be carried out on a given day and is completed on time and in budget.
As a Chargehand you will support the management of the fitting out /refurbishment and the install /dismantle of Hire Fleet buildings and ongoing maintenance /suitability of facilities at the Hire and Service centre. This includes ensuring that all works are undertaken in a structured manner whilst maintaining effective cost control, meeting /improving upon planned costs, working within agreed timescales, adherence to safe working practices at all times and maintaining quality standards.
You will also support the management team on all aspects of Health and Safety within the area of responsibility, ensure operational best practice is followed and excellent customer service is always delivered.
You must have a valid UK Driving License.
Flexibility is required in this role due to the workload of projects and rectifications which are based on and off site (company vans are provided). Your working pattern will be 39 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 07:45 to 16:30 and finishing early on Friday at 15:30 (inclusive of lunch breaks).
Role Details
- Starting salary: £15.63 ph. /£31,697.64 p.a. (Semi-Skilled) or £16.80 ph. /£34,070.40 p.a. (Skilled)
- Opportunity to earn additional hourly rate based on skill set and behaviours. This is between; £0.23 ph. - £3.90 ph. (£466.44 p.a. - £7,909.20 p.a.) for Semi-Skilled or £0.25 ph. - £4.21 ph. (£507 p.a. - £8,537.88 p.a.) for Skilled.
- Overtime is regularly available which is paid time at a premium rate of £21.15 ph. (Semi-Skilled) or £22.85 ph. (Skilled). On average you can earn an additional basic minimum of £5,499 p.a. Role Responsibilities

Ensure the operations team comply with all legislation, codes of practice, industry guidelines and/or Company procedures/policies relating to Health and Safety.

Ensure any direct working areas and the hire centre is maintained to a safe and orderly standard using 5 S, H&S Inspections and monthly SHE tour and report.

Maintain an accurate method of tracking the work program and complete accurate paperwork for all buildings through daily monitoring and managing progress against daily plan.

Check accuracy of building allocation paperwork, e.g., drawings and specifications. Ensuring fitout is to agreed specification.

Our Ideal Candidate
We're looking for someone with practical operational experience ideally in construction related roles and experience of managing health and safety within construction working environments.
The ideal candidate will also have a solid understanding of various software packages including MS Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
