Fixed term contract for 6 months

The Opportunity:

At Explore Manufacturing we produce a variety of concrete products, many of which require bespoke solutions. This role is to provide structural engineering design support to reduce risk and ensure 'engineered safety' throughout the full manufactured product life cycle.

  • Assessing temporary works and lifting design requirements and producing structure design assessments
  • Develop appropriate standard engineering solutions to maximise use of precast structures products and support standardisation
  • Ensure design control procedures are up to date with legislative and business requirements and ensure adherence
  • Support Work winning opportunities through production of structural feasibility assesments
  • Producing product design of precast elements for the external market

What will the role look like?

  • To provide and check precast structural designs (which are fully compliant at all times with all relevant design and Construction Design & Management (CDM) Regulations.
  • Assist the bid team with the production of tender stage 2/3 design for cost allowances
  • Review project specifications to provide designs which are considerate of the structural frame requirements
  • Review panel design and movement and ensure this is considerate of interfacing elements
  • Assess the lifting, handling, storage and transport requirement of the product and ensure these are capture in the structural design load cases
  • Have an understanding of the capabilities and constraints of all manufacturing plants and equipment for the manufacture of precast concrete.
  • Provide value engineering in determining the best solution for engineering problems
  • Working with others internal and external to develop products that perform structurally to meet client requirements and manufacturing constraints.
  • Maintain awareness of ongoing product development and provide input where required to ensure effective development of existing products and introduction of new products
  • Nurture and develop junior engineers
  • Ensure full adherence to all quality control procedures and remain compliant with authorisation and approval processes both internally and externally

What skills & experience are we looking for?

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in structural design engineer role
  • A good track record of delivering structural design for precast projects.
  • Experience of reinforced concrete design and detailing
  • Experience of structural steel design
  • Experience of managing a structural design team from concept to completion of stage 4 design
  • Be professionally qualified (e.g. Chartered Engineer or equivalent in other disciplines) with demonstrable leadership skills converting technical expertise into action, with the ability to lead teams to a successful outcome.
  • Structural finite element model experience
  • Good knowledge of precast concrete design for manufacture and assembly
  • Good knowledge of site construction techniques
