Kier Highways are now recruiting for a Highways Maintenance Operative to join our Highways team in multiple areas to assist the Maintenance & Response (M&R) Supervisors with the efficient and timely delivery of the M&R service requirements across the Area 4 network. This role requires you to operate heavy plant and equipment, manual handling and working outside in all types of weather.

Highways Maintenance experience preferred but not essential, full training provided.

Location: Maidstone, Eastbourne, Ashford/Folkestone

Business Area: Highways

Contract & hours: Permanent 4 on 4 off, 12-hour shifts, days and nights on a rota basis

Salary: 30K - 40K (weekly paid) + package

Key Responsibilities

  • Required to carry out emergency response operations and install traffic management where required, carry out depot operations, maintenance and improvement works and support severe weather operations.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and repairs to the network as required, using plant and equipment, provided relevant training has been received.
  • Actively promote Health and Safety in the workplace, setting a good example to other employees and ensuring awareness of and compliance with general Health and Safety responsibilities as set out in the Health and Safety Management System.
  • To liaise with National Highways at the scene of road traffic incidents and to work with them to clear the scene as quickly as possible.

  • Capable of working under pressure within a safety critical role
  • Full driving licence
