An opportunity has arisen for a weekend Grounds Person to join a Housing Association in Burnley. You will be working around the area. Preferabbly you will be able to drive but its not essential. You will be responsible for the maintenance work of the grounds and premises to ensure that they are maintained in a tidy, presentable and safe state at all times; carrying out all work in line with Health and Safety requirements and regulations.
Main Duties
· Maintain the grounds including pruning, grass cutting, strimming, hedge cutting, planting, digging, raking, weeding and general gardening duties - some heavy lifting involved
· Lawn maintenance and cultivation
· Planting and managing trees and hedges
· Undertake chemical weed control in accordance with safe working procedures for the use of chemicals
· General horticultural duties using hand tools and basic light machinery and plant
· Adjustment of mower height and quality of cut, oil level checks and check for damage to mowers
· Assist in the collection and disposal of refuse ensuring the grounds are free of litter
· Ensure, especially in winter, that access roads, pavements, steps and play areas are safe for use at all times
· Carry out gritting, salt spreading and snow clearing as necessary
· Undertake general maintenance of site premises, fixtures and fittings
· Carry out basic maintenance of equipment, reporting any defects or problems to the Park Manager
· Ensure all equipment and machinery is secure
· Ensure adequate stock of tools, equipment and materials as necessary for the upkeep of the site and report any requirements to the Park Manager
The Ideal Candidate
· Previous experience of grounds maintenance desirable
· Must be physically fit and enjoy working outdoors
