Senior Control Systems Engineer - Breedon Group

As a Senior Control Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for leading a small specialist team responsible for sustaining and improving our operational control systems at Hope Works inclusive of project development, integration & DCS upgrade. The key objectives within the role are as follows:

Maintain Reliability of Operational Plant Control Systems

  • Provide automated solutions to the business to ensure short-, medium- and long-term strategies are achieved through the Mitsubishi MAPS SCADA system
  • Manage the programming, maintenance and phase out of Bailey Infi-90 DCS system
  • Management and development of long-term strategies for Plant Information (PI) system
  • Manage and develop the control system virtual environment and network infrastructure
  • Mange the development and maintenance of FLS Process Expert System.
  • Overseeing the Development and maintenance of SQL databases.
  • Active involvement in plant improvement meetings, reliability meetings, and root cause analysis meetings.
  • Taking a leading role within control room operations during major start-ups and daily operations, assisting the operations team in the diagnosis and resolution of day-to-day issues and plant optimisation including software and hardware modifications where required, using change management procedures.
  • Manage, coach, and develop Control Systems Engineer & trainees to a high level of proficiency
  • Provide & manage out-of-hours automation system support.
  • Own, Build & manage control systems financial budget

Lead the development of Plant control systems

  • The Management of internal and external systems engineers' resource to deliver the works capital Investment plan.
  • The project management of a multimillion-pound plantwide digital control system upgrade project to Adroit Mitsubishi MAPS 4.0 SCADA system over the next five years.
  • Design and Development to support new project investments across the plant with respect to control system implementation / integration including overseeing, production of Functional Design Specifications, CAD drawings, communications and networking, PLC programming, loop design & tuning, graphic creation, and integration into the DCS/SCADA system and PI system.
  • Form an integral part of the Projects teams carrying out Factory Acceptance Testing and commissioning of several large capital projects.
  • Management and implementation of new technologies within the workplace, i.e. Control System Mobile Platform, Augmented Reality

    Role Specific

    • IET Accredited BEng (Hons) Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
    • 18th Edition Wiring regulations BS7671 Certificate

  • Substantial relevant experience
  • Electrical, Instrumentation and Systems experience in a heavy industrial environment
  • The ability to be part of a multi-disciplined team in a heavy industrial environment
  • An excellent working knowledge of the cement manufacturing process
  • Proven ability to manage individuals
  • Proven ability to produce and maintain budgets
  • Excellent experience in programming and commissioning PLCs (Mitsubishi) and DCS/SCADA (ABB Bailey Infi-90/Adroit MAPS 4.0/ Mitsubishi MX2000) including Ladder Logic, Function Blocks, Visual Basic, Dynamic C and C++
  • Experience of programming Human Machine Interfaces such as Mitsubishi GOTs
  • Programming and commissioning a range of Frequency Inverters (ABB & Mitsubishi)
  • Experience in designing, commissioning and tuning linear and non-linear analogue & digital control loops including cascade systems
  • Knowledge of Advanced Process Control systems utilizing model predictive control such as FLSchmidt Process Expert
  • Skilled knowledge of various industrial communications and networking protocols including Modbus RTU, Profibus, CC-Link, MelsecNet, Ethernet/IP, OPC DA, OPC UA
  • Administration and development of control interface and historical databases and software including OSISoft PI and PI Virtualisation
  • Microsoft SQL database experience related to production reporting and control
  • Proficient in configuring PC based client and server machines using the Windows operating systems and knowledge of hubs, routers, and network switches.
  • Knowledge of server and virtualisation infrastructures such as VMWare and Win Server
  • Experience of thermal imaging software such as Thermoteknix Centurion and Multiview
  • Strong knowledge of IT systems, including SAP, MS Word, Excel, Project, Visio etc
  • Excellent Verbal and written communication skills
  • Cement plant & maintenance process knowledge
