Laing O'Rourke has a hybrid working model which is centred around managing energy and promoting sustainable performance in the role.
This role will require travel and overnight stays, enabling you to immerse yourself in our people and the great work they do across our projects. The frequency will be determined by workload and requirements.
The role of the Environmental Compliance Manager is vital in realising our mission to enable key sustainability indicators and processes across the business.
The new position will be embedded within the wider sustainability function, working under the Environmental Sustainability Leader and playing a pivotal role in supporting projects across the business.
What will the role look like?
- Work with other functions to integrate the Environment and Energy Management Systems with other systems throughout the business eg ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and, technical processes.
- Work with the Environmental Sustainability Leader, Energy and Carbon Lead, and Business Unit Leads, and the Sustainability SLT to design, maintain and implement an integrated Environment and Energy management system certified to ISO 14001 and ISO 50001.
- To support the Environmental Sustainability Leader, in the ongoing development of the LOR Sustainability Strategy by creating and maintaining systems that ensure data collection, delivery, and evidencing of the Strategy.
- To set, in collaboration with the Environmental Sustainability Leader and other key members of the team a set of Key Performance Indicators and objectives that can measure environmental performance at the hub, business unit, function, and project levels.
- Monitor implementation of our management systems across our business including completion of key processes, for example, inspections, audits, and close out
- Monitor incidents, investigations, root cause analysis, trends, and lessons learned sharing across projects and business units.
- Management of continual improvement activities for the management systems including Management Review, alerts and, lessons learned
- Provide support to Clients and Markets and Work winning teams with input to case studies, tenders, PQQs, client meetings, early engagement, and presentations as required
- Responsible for work-winning evidence across the Specialist Businesses Unit portfolio of projects including quotes, case studies, and quantifiable data
- Track performance across sustainability rating schemes eg BREEAM, CEEQUAL, WELL etc, and horizon scan for new initiatives. Coordinate across function to provide tools for evidence capture and lessons learned.
- Single point of contact for the Considerate Constructors Scheme, monitor and communicate performance.
What skills & experience are we looking for?
- Experience in developing and implementing environmental management systems in organisations and ideally a construction setting
- Experience in internal auditing for ISO 14001 and ISO 50001
- Good understanding of work-winning procedures and how to develop a high-quality bid submission
- Ability to lead multiple projects and programmes
- Ability to lead environmental compliance and management systems across the function providing advice, guidance, structure and support needed to successfully recognise and manage environmental risks and opportunities
- Ability to understand data management in relation to environmental sustainability, including data accuracy, auditing, and reporting
