We're looking for an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) to join our Highways team based in Gloucester. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a high-profile landscape-led major highways project in Gloucestershire. This role will be site-based and responsible for overseeing the delivery of ecological mitigation, site clearance and habitat creation. You will supervise contractors ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, planning conditions and associated documents (e.g. Construction Environment Management Plan, species licences, mitigation strategies and method statements). Contract: Permanent - Fulltime

Salary: up to £35k

Responsibilities

As an Ecological Clerk of Works, you'll provide single point of contact for ecological matters onsite and be responsible for overseeing the management of construction risks associated with ecology and provide continuous improvement of environmental processes, procedures and related forms

Your day to day will include:

  • Provide onsite support to licenced ecologists as required
  • Supervise contractors to ensure compliance with CEMP, SSSI assent, protected species licences and agreed methodologies.
  • Produce and deliver inductions, toolbox talks and communicate to contractors.
  • Carry out pre-construction checks and regular site inspections.
  • Provide regular updates to stakeholders and the project team.
Who are we looking for?

This role of Ecological Clerk of Works is great for you if have:

  • Ecological related degree or equivalent
  • Member of CIEEM or equivalent
  • Previous Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) experience including working with contractors and ensuring compliance with protected species licence requirements and environmental protection measures.
  • Experience conducting protected species surveys including badgers, nesting birds, great crested newts and reptiles
