The Opportunity:

We have a unique opportunity for an experienced Structural Engineer to join our industry-leading fire engineering technical assurance team.

In addition to a deep understanding of structures, the role ideally requires an interest in structural fire engineering, including an understanding of project fire strategies, how structural elements react under fire conditions and an understanding of how they interface with building materials under fire.

The multi-disciplinary fire team currently includes specialists in architecture, passive fire stopping and fire strategy. It aims to deliver best practice in standards and governance for all aspects of fire safety across our projects.

What will the role look like?

  • The role involves design optioneering, assessment and client management to help lead our fire team on complex and exciting projects from concept to construction using state-of-the-art manufacturing, digital and construction techniques to ensure structural integrity under fire conditions.
  • You will be the custodian of the LOR discipline knowledge base, owner of the discipline related standards and lead understanding / interpretation of emerging legislation in relation to fire strategies and regulatory compliance.
  • You will provide discipline oversight on an intervention basis to support projects in appropriately driving fire related technical consistency, ensuring Technical Integrity through the complete project lifecycle.
  • You will address concerns on a range of project related structural fire queries inclusive of structural fireproofing, reaction to fire loads, along with guidance on interfacing passive fire protection elements.
  • You will advise on fire load implications on Modern methods (DfMA) of construction, their design and limitations with respect to fire loading.
  • You will be capable of providing support on compiling design scopes for the structural elements for fire modelling analysis.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

  • Ideally you will be degree educated to Masters level in Structural Engineering, and a Chartered or Incorporated Member of IStructE / ICE - or actively working towards this.
  • A balance of Consultancy / design office and site-based experience
  • Digital Engineering / conversant with BIM software
  • Knowledgeable in fire standards and compliances
  • Experience working with project fire strategies and an understanding of structural fire requirements for varied buildings.
  • Experience working on varied structural forms ranging from concrete to steel to timber is desirable
