Kier Group is looking to recruit a Senior Highways Engineer with Design post-graduate experience in highways design. It is essential that you have experience and knowledge about highways geometry, pavement design, signs & road markings, drainage, vehicle restraint systems to become part of the Kier Highways Design Solutions Team at Waterbeach, Cambridge office. Location: Birmingham - remote working available, with travel to the office required

Contract: Permanent, Fulltime

Salary: £42k - £50k


Responsibilities

As a Senior Engineer, you'll be responsible for assisting the team leader and senior design manager in delivery of various highways schemes. You will also be responsible for carrying out own design work for internal and external clients. The work will involve delivery of cost effective and technically sound design solutions in National Highways contracts and for local highway authorities in accordance with the DMRB, SHW, TSRGD, TSM, good practice, contract delivery programmes and budgets.

Your day to day will include:
  • Maintain good relations with the Client and other authorities, attending meetings as necessary
  • Identify and apply appropriate methodologies and standards to produce effective and innovative solutions for the schemes and studies to current standards
  • Preparation of fee estimates, design programmes, tender and contract documents. Making a positive contribution towards bids and project proposals making suggestions for new areas of work
  • Liaise with statutory and non-statutory bodies to obtain relevant data, licences and consents. Seeking technical approval as required from external bodies
  • Mentoring and coaching members of staff. Actively contributing to the technical excellence in the team and will supervise, assist and/or mentor team members as required with regards to both technical and professional development and is active in maintaining and developing own technical expertise (CPD)

Who are we looking for?

This role of Senior Highways Engineer is great for you if have:
  • a degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • chartered / incorporated member of a relevant professional institution (MICE/MIStructE or equivalent) or possess equivalent experience
  • demonstrable broad in-depth experience in inspection, assessment, design and construction of highway structures to UK standards
  • valid clean driving licence
