We are looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing Precast Technical Solutions team. Precast Technical Solutions (PTS) is an integral part of the Explore Manufacturing Design Centre, established to provide end-to-end leadership and best practice in pre-cast design and engineering throughout the full design process. This role is an opportunity to be at the forefront of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) in the UK, with teams developing and delivering innovative solutions, utilising products that we produce through our own manufacturing facility, the Centre for Excellence for Modern Construction (CEMC).

The Senior Engineer role is required to lead structural engineering input on Tenders and Pre-Construction Service Agreement (PCSA) engagements for all DfMA projects across Building Structures, Facades and Infrastructure. The individual will work closely with bid teams to assess existing designs and develop alternative, DfMA product-based designs during the tender process to enable robust pricing and identification of technical risk. Additionally, we are seeking an engineer to take our product sets to the next level, by utilising experience in the implementation of parametric design to optimise the design process of DfMA components and deliver zero carbon products. This will be a critical role in delivering on Laing O'Rourke's target to be a net zero carbon company before 2050. Can you help us improve further?

What experience and skills do you need for this role?

  • Provide tender RIBA Stage 2/3 structural design assessments for cost allowances, utilising the CEMC product set.
  • Utilise parametric design software to develop the structural design process and implement for delivery of component-led designs.
  • A passion to lead the industry through structural design and construction automation.
  • Good problem-solving skills and confidence to enforce safe designs
  • Reinforced concrete design experience
  • Coding/scripting skills e.g. grasshopper / Solibri / Dynamo
  • Experience in using CAD packages, including Revit, and is keen to extend their learning in this area
  • Knowledge in the use of design and analysis programs (TEDDS, Scia Engineer) is beneficial to the role.
  • Degree level or equivalent on the job learning in Civil / Structural Engineering; Chartered Structural Engineer or working towards this
  • Circa 5 years' experience in a structural design engineer role

Desirable

  • Structural Steel design experience
  • Concrete reinforcement detailing knowledge
  • Good understanding of site construction techniques and building design principles
  • Understanding of precast concrete manufacture
  • A good understanding of associated assembly methods & costs is also desired
