SEN Caseworker Officer

Our Client, representing Cambridgeshire County Council, is seeking a temporary SEN Caseworker Officer to support the management of the Education Health and Care Needs Assessment and Annual Review Process for children with complex additional needs. This role offers fully remote working and requires a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults.

Key Objectives:

  • Manage workload, including Education Health and Care Needs Assessment and Annual Review, for a designated geographic area.
  • Present cases to Education Health and Care Needs Assessment Panel/County Resourcing Panel and provide feedback to schools, parents, and professionals. Seek creative solutions when necessary.
  • Identify and resolve issues arising from casework and inter-agency work.
  • Draft Education Health and Care Plans and attend planning meetings as required. Monitor children and young people's progress through the Statutory Annual Review process.
  • Collaborate with parents/carers and develop effective relationships with schools, professionals, agencies, and other Local Authorities.
  • Negotiate educational provision with schools, settings, and agencies. Monitor contract compliance with providers.
  • Support the Team Leader in meeting statutory duties and targets. Contribute to the development of practices and policies within the team.
  • Act as a deputy for the Team Leader when needed.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of the Local Authority's response to special educational needs in the County. Participate in training delivery.
  • Demonstrate awareness of equal opportunities and the needs of others.

Skills and Qualities:

  • Working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, legislation, and Children and Families Act.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-agency team.
  • Flexible, proactive, and able to work under pressure while prioritizing caseload.
  • Strong negotiation, challenge, and mediation skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Understanding of special educational needs and disabilities and their impact on children, young people, and families.
  • Commitment to delivering a high-quality service.
  • Professional and enabling approach when working with children, young people, and their families.
  • Non-judgmental and open-minded.
  • Willingness to travel within and beyond the County.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Experience working as part of a busy team and on own initiative.
  • Understanding of partnership working and leading multi-agency meetings.
  • Experience working to tight deadlines with changing priorities.
  • Strong communication and report writing skills.
  • Familiarity with administrative and office processes.
  • Proficiency in using ICT and common software packages.
  • Experience working with children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • GCSE Grade A-C in English and Maths.
  • A Level/NVQ Level 4.
  • Teaching/Special Educational Needs experience in an educational field.
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent (desirable).
