We're currently recruiting for a Senior Legal Counsel to manage risk through providing and procuring legal support to the Kier Construction business with a particular focus on supporting Kier Places, our FM, housing maintenance, fire safety remediation and refurbishment business.

Location: Flexible, with travel as required
Contract: Permanent, full-time, able to consider part-time opportunities

Responsibilities

Reporting into our Head of Legal - Construction, your role will involve, but not be limited to:

  • Day to day support to the business commercial and operational teams to pro-actively implement contractually compliant procedures to protect the business and Group commercial / legal position;
  • Input and strategic guidance on issues in a pre-dispute setting and ensuring efficient and effective handling of disputes, through formal dispute resolution processes;
  • Assisting BUs to achieve compliance with Group governance requirements and good risk management in a pre-contract setting.
  • Responsibility for the scope, cost control and appointment of external legal advisers where required, in conjunction with the business and Head of Legal - Construction;
  • Involvement in developing and delivering toolkits and legal awareness training on various issues across Kier and maintaining legal precedents;
  • Responsible for own compliance with all SRA CPD requirements although practice certificates will be dealt with by the Group.

    Who are we looking for?
  • A self-starter with knowledge and experience of facilities management contracts, PFI contracts and construction law, gained from either private practice or an in-house environment
  • Mid-senior level Solicitor/Barrister admitted to England & Wales or passed QLTs
  • Experience of both contentious and non-contentious matters or a willingness to develop their skillset to cover both
  • Excellent knowledge of key standard forms, in particular JCT and NEC.
  • Good relationship builder at all levels of seniority
  • Able to articulate complex legal concepts in simple commercial language
