Catfoss Recruitment Ltd are currently in partnership with a cutting-edge technology company that is looking to recruit a Product Process Safety Engineer to their expanding team on a permanent basis.
Building on more than two decades of science led research and development, our client designs and manufactures pioneering power generation technology.
What are we looking for
Product Compliance & Validation is responsible for the compliance, functional safety, validation & long-term testing of our power generation products. We currently have an opportunity for a Product Process Safety Engineer on a permanent basis.
The position will support the Process Safety Officer in the implementation of process safety management principles including collation of key process safety information prior to participation in process hazard analysis, authoring or reviewing operating procedures, devising pre-start up safety review (PSSR) criteria for plant, liaison with Compliance Team in reviewing mechanical integrity of plant, authoring, and reviewing relief / flare blowdown calculations, supporting management of change and incident investigations etc.
Process Safety Engineer - Responsibilities
* Participate / scribe Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) studies, including other Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) studies, i.e. Hazard Identification (HAZID), What-If, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
* Delegate and track progress through to completion of actions and recommendations, including chairing HAZOP LOPA close-out meetings
* Process simulation experience with Aspentech HYSYS, Honeywell UniSim and/or other Fluid Flow modelling software for single and two-phase applications
* Adept in safety relief valve sizing and flare systems modelling to API 520 / API 521, ISO 4126 - single and two-phase applications
* Demonstrable knowledge of explosive atmospheres (IEC 60079 and ATEX/DSEAR regulations)
* Support in creation of product basis of safety documentation
* Knowledgeable in IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 with good understanding and / or application of all stages of the design cycle, i.e. analysis, design, implementation, operation and maintenance
* Support in the development of a Functional Safety Management (FSM) plan, i.e. functional safety assessment (FSA) stages 1 through 5
* Creation of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) proof test procedures
* Client liaison and site visits (UK or abroad) as appropriate (generally infrequent)
About You
Process Safety Engineer - Knowledge and Experience
* Chemical / Electrical Engineering or other Safety Engineering related degree
* Ideally have achieved Chartered status, or planning to do so, it through a recognised UK institution, i.e. IChemE, MSaRS or similar
* A minimum of 2 years as a process/functional safety engineer
Advantageous:
* Certified and/or experienced in chairing HAZOP and LOPA studies
* Able to undertake Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) reviews - Safety Integrity Level (SIL) verification calculations in terms of reliability block diagrams (RBDs) or Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
* Consequence analysis using proprietary software such as DNV PHAST
* As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) demonstration - cost benefit analysis (CBA)
* Alarm management lifecycle processes
* Site Experience
Process Safety Engineer - Skills and Abilities
* Good organisational skills
* Ability to solve problems in a time and cost-effective manner
* Time management of themselves and all members of the Process Safety Team
* Good written and verbal reporting skills and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels internally up to executive board level and to external parties as required
* Ability to work to tight and sometimes changing deadlines
* Be able to influence and guide work activities to facilitate on time delivery of products and projects
