We have a fantastic new opportunity for a Senior Environmental Advisor to join our specialist business unit, Expanded. Part of the Laing O'Rourke Group, the Expanded Group provides total capability in the early construction phases of major projects, providing an end-to-end solution or a bespoke choice of services. Backed by a central technical design and engineering resource, we can deliver the full range of piling, precast concrete, post-tensioning and structures techniques.

Old Oak Common is a new super-hub set to be the best-connected and largest new railway station ever built in the UK! The Role

To provide solution-oriented environmental support on a high-profile permanent works project for the HS2 programme. Assuring compliance with an ISO14001-certified environmental management system, ISO50001-certified energy management system and client requirements (including support of BREEAM NC 2014 and PAS2080).

Role and Responsibilities

  • The candidate will support the project team to identify and control all environmental risks, identify appropriate mitigation and monitor the implementation of these.
  • Undertake assurance of the works to the requirements of the Laing O'Rourke ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System.
  • Champion the implementation of the business environmental strategy and develop project commitments
  • Assure compliance with the LOR Environmental Management System on the project
  • Provide support to the project in the delivery of the key objectives with regards to environmental plans
  • Provide environmental engineering so that the latest developments and innovations in permanent and temporary works are considered during construction
  • Provide technical advice and direct help to the project, clients and contractors to assist with the resolution of any significant environmental problems
  • Build capability across the project with regard the understanding and the processes to deliver environmental advances to meet the Laing O'Rourke vision
  • Engage and brief the workforce around environmental issues
  • Ensure innovation and best practise is developed, implemented and communication with regards to environmental issues.
  • Ensure that the project is managed with leanness and waste reduction implemented in all process and procedures
  • Measure our environmental performance and undertake the audits of the project on a regular basis
  • Promote the reduction of energy use and carbon emissions
  • Understands stakeholder and project requirements and supports the team to develop and apply action plans from pre construction to completion
  • Provides coaching and training on environmental processes and tools

The Ideal Candidate

  • 5 years of environmental sustainability experience in a similar role
  • Is a registered environmental practitioner
  • Comfortable with large data-sets - proficient use of excel (other data platforms such as Power BI ideal)
  • Has a comprehensive understanding of ISO14001, ISO5001 and PAS2080
  • Can provide evidence of influencing behaviour change and innovation
  • Experience building relationships in a high pressure environment
  • Keen to learn, hard working and detail orientated
  • Able to demonstrate initiative
  • A team player who demonstrates strong communication skills
  • Is well-organised and has strong time-management skills in a fast-paced environment
