Laing O'Rourke is currently seeking a Sustainability Manager to work on our flagship project - Oxford Ellison.
Ellison Institute of Technology will continue the Institute's work in cancer research, disease prevention, and global health policy, along with providing educational programming for students from around the globe.
A newly constructed building in The Oxford Science Park will be home to further research laboratories and educational spaces, laid out to promote collaboration and flexibility. This includes a roof-top wooden geodesic dome overlooking the surrounding tree canopy.
The two buildings will be connected by an elevated tree-covered walkway to enhance access and promote collaboration between both sites.
What will the role look like?
- As part of the sustainability function you will lead the delivery of sustainability requirements on two flagship projects, working alongside the project leadership teams and delivery teams, taking ownership of ESG reporting and client engagement.
- Embedding sustainability across the project, ensuring that key environmental and social criteria are embedded in decision-making, in alignment with cost, programme and design development.
- Part of the project(s) core leadership team representing all aspects of sustainability across environmental, carbon design/management and community benefits; representing function with Client
- Map stakeholders and create Stakeholder Management Plan to inform project delivery and communication
- Reviewing, addressing challenges and reporting across sustainability metrics to Project Leadership, Clients and other stakeholders, including but not limited to local authorities
- Lead on supporting community engagement activities
- Provide oversight and implementation support of cross-project opportunities on the LOR Oxford project portfolio (Humanities, EITM, Oxford North) to maximise sustainable outcomes and ESG Client KPIs.
Responsibilities:
- Strong collaborator with the ability to positively influence outcomes; rigorous and detail-oriented; creative and innovative thinker; empathetic, customer and service-oriented.
- Work with Environmental and Social Advisors, Technical teams (design managers focusing on carbon) and other non-sustainability project team members to develop project Sustainability risk and opportunities register and set objectives.
- Work with the projects procurement team to maintain proactive engagement with local and national supply chain partners
- Manage sustainability KPI data collection and ensure collaboration across the wider project team, including but not limited to Procurement, Workforce, People and Technical.
- Ensuring Design, Procurement, Planning collaboration to embed sustainability requirements
- Oversight of CCS /Regulators / Other stakeholder relationships and representation to ensure requirements and deliverables are met.
- Leading on community engagement requirements, worked collaboratively with the client team and local stakeholders.
- Lead on proactively building relationships with client community engagement lead.
What skills & experience are we looking for?
- Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (Engineering, Architecture, Environmental, Quantity Surveying, Geography, or Marketing) or equivalent experience
- Experience in developing and implementing sustainability strategies in projects in construction setting
- Ability to lead on multiple projects and programmes
- Ability to lead to work with multiple stakeholders to ensure all business needs are met.
- Ability to understand data management in relation to environmental and social sustainability, including data accuracy, auditing, and reporting
