This role has been created to oversee and upskill existing staff, bolster the companies number of mechanical engineers, generate additional work.

Reporting to: Technical Directors

Reports: Mechanical Reactive Engineering Division

Responsibilities:

Engineering Management

  • Lead and manage the mechanical engineering division, providing strategic direction, mentor-ship, and support to all mechanical engineers within the company.
  • Collaborate closely with the Technical Director to align the mechanical division's objectives with the overall company strategy.
  • Oversee the on boarding process for new engineers, ensuring a seamless integration into the team and company culture.
  • Conduct regular audits of mechanical engineering activities, both on-site and remotely, to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Offer technical support and guidance to engineers, both through direct on-site assistance and remote consultations.
  • Perform competency audits to evaluate the engineering skills of staff members, generating comprehensive progress reports based on the assessments.

Engineering Quality Control

  • Conduct regular 1:1 meetings with engineers to provide feedback, address concerns, and facilitate professional growth.
  • Monitor and manage the availability of tools and equipment, organising monthly toolbox talks to promote knowledge sharing and safety awareness.
  • Oversee the call-out rota and staffing levels to ensure round-the-clock coverage for any emergencies or urgent situations.
  • Coordinate and arrange training sessions to enhance the skills and knowledge of the mechanical engineering team.

Engineering Operations

  • Act as a liaison between the engineering team and the office, effectively conveying information and ensuring seamless communication.
  • Address staffing concerns, conflicts, or issues with engineers, providing actionable recommendations to improve performance and job satisfaction.
  • Assume the role of supervisor to sign off on completed jobs, ensuring quality and adherence to project specifications.
  • Handle escalated technical customer complaints, investigating and resolving issues to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to generate additional work, increase revenue, and attract new customers to the mechanical division.

Engineering Resourcing

  • Lead the process of inducting new engineers, acquainting them with company policies, safety procedures, and team expectations.
  • Arrange and oversee van inspections to maintain the safety and functionality of company vehicles.
  • Manage the off-boarding process for engineers leaving the company, ensuring a smooth transition and proper documentation.

KPI's - How we will measure the success of this role:

Direct

  • Number of Audits Completed per month
  • Number of van inspections completed per month
  • Revenue from jobs coming in and being completed
  • Billable hours being achieved

Non Direct

  • Regular toolbox talks happening
  • Upskilling of engineer success stories
  • Customer satisfaction being high
