A well-established and highly respected contractor is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join their growing team in London. This role is an opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of complex projects across civil engineering, infrastructure, and structural works, helping to shape the built environment with innovative and sustainable design solutions.

As a Design Manager, you'll play a key role in ensuring designs are developed, coordinated, and implemented effectively, balancing technical, commercial, and programme requirements.
The Role
As the Design Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the entire design process, from pre-construction through to project completion. This role requires close collaboration with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal project teams, ensuring that all design elements align with project specifications, budgets, and timelines.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the design process from concept through to construction, ensuring all technical requirements and client expectations are met.
- Coordinating with architects, engineers, and specialist consultants to develop cost-effective and efficient design solutions.
- Ensuring compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and contractual obligations.
- Managing risks and identifying opportunities for value engineering and design optimisation.
- Reviewing and approving technical drawings, models, and documentation, ensuring accuracy and feasibility.
- Liaising with project managers and site teams to facilitate smooth project execution and resolve any design-related issues.
- Overseeing design change management, ensuring revisions are implemented effectively without impacting project delivery.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience as a Design Manager in the construction, civil engineering, or structural sectors.
- Strong technical expertise in design principles, construction methodologies, and relevant industry regulations.
- Experience managing the design process on medium to large-scale projects, ensuring seamless coordination between multiple stakeholders.
- The ability to interpret and critique design information, identifying potential risks and opportunities for improvement.
- A proactive and problem-solving mindset, with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with project teams.
- A degree or professional qualification in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
