Are you a skilled social performance professional ready to make an impact in Botswana and across the region? We're looking for a Manager - Social Sciences to lead a growing team in Gaborone. Join a respected international consultancy delivering Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs) and advisory services on projects that shape the future of Africa's mining and infrastructure sectors.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives on fieldwork, team leadership, and high-level client engagement-and who is passionate about delivering best-practice social solutions in line with IFC and international standards.
What you'll be doing:
- Lead and manage the Botswana-based Social Sciences team, ensuring quality delivery across all projects.
- Plan, deliver and review social baseline studies, stakeholder engagement, socio-economic assessments, resettlement action plans (RAPs), and local content strategies.
- Oversee proposal development, budgeting, and client reporting in accordance with both local and international ESG standards.
- Represent the company in industry forums, regulatory engagements, and with community stakeholders.
- Mentor junior consultants, supporting career development and building team capability.
- Contribute to strategic growth of the social services offering across Southern Africa.
What You Bring:
- A postgraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g. social sciences, environmental studies, development).
- 5+ years' experience in environmental and social consulting, with a strong track record in the mining or infrastructure sectors.
- Solid knowledge of Botswana's environmental and social legislation, plus familiarity with international standards (e.g. IFC, Equator Principles).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel locally and regionally for project work.
