We are currently looking for an Asset Engineer (Examiner) to join our dedicated team. This is a critical role in ensuring the integrity and safety of our infrastructure through expert inspection, analysis, and reporting.

The Role

As an Asset Engineer (Examiner), you'll carry out and manage detailed examinations of railway structures such as bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and tunnels. You'll play a vital part in ensuring our structural assets remain safe, serviceable, and compliant with engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and undertake detailed structural examinations in line with Network Rail standards.
  • Record, assess, and report on asset condition using approved methods and technology.
  • Identify and categorise defects, potential failures, or deterioration trends.
  • Liaise with maintenance and project teams to recommend remedial actions or further investigations.
  • Ensure timely submission of examination reports and maintain accurate asset records.
  • Support emergency incident response as required, providing technical expertise on asset condition.
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement across the team.

Essential Requirements

  • HNC/HND or degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in asset examination or inspection, ideally in a rail or heavy infrastructure environment.
  • PTS (Personal Track Safety) qualified, or willingness to obtain.
  • Sound knowledge of structural forms and behaviour, defect types, and deterioration mechanisms.
  • Competent in the use of digital inspection/reporting tools (e.g., Ellipse, BCI scoring).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to various sites, including night and weekend work as required.

Desirable

  • STE04/STE05 examiner competencies.
  • Membership of ICE or IStructE.
  • Understanding of asset lifecycle management principles.
