Breedon are seeking an experienced Area Operations Manager to join our South West area covering The West Country and Gloucestershire who is enthusiastic and committed to lead the management of our mineral and production portfolio.

Reporting into the Regional Operations Manager, this role will lead the area operations team to maximise the operational performance within the area by managing people, costs and standards, whilst adhering to the health, safety, quality and environmental policies. You will be an integral part of the management team helping to drive performance in a critical business area.

We are looking for an individual with the ability to influence and communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders. You will be people and performance focused with the drive to make it happen.

The key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Continuously monitor performance within the area against business targets, identifying areas for increased performance and efficiency.
  • Develop the team, both individually and collectively, through delegation, coaching, mentoring, and learning.
  • Communicate to the team in a clear and effective manner, business expectations, including performance requirements and results.
  • Work with the senior leadership team to identify and drive the implementation of cost saving initiatives and investment opportunities.
  • Deliver on targets set regarding technical and quality controls.
  • Operate sites in an environmentally responsible manner and comply with company procedures and statutory regulations.
  • Ensure SHE compliance within the area, aiming to build a safety culture.
  • Provide effective leadership to your team, managing & coaching direct reports to continually improve operational performance & standards.
  • Manage operational costs and site action plans
  • Drive operational performance through KPI's
  • Ensure that direct reports undertake their roles competently, that their roles are clearly defined and understood and that all are motivated and developed to achieve the business's objectives.

  • You will possess an NVQ Level 4 / QCF Level 5 or be a Charted Engineer with relevant continual professional development.
  • Operational management experience in RMX and Quarrying operations.
  • Experience of leading teams at a senior level setting strategy and delivering results.
  • Ability to perform adequately under pressure and/or opposition. Ability to make controlled responses in difficult situations.
  • Delegation - Effective use of team experience and skills. Knowledge of when, how and whom to delegate. Effective allocation of decision-making and other responsibilities.
  • Problem Analysis - Ability in identifying problems, seeking pertinent data, recognising important information, and identifying possible causes of problems.
  • Judgment - Ability to evaluate data and course of action and to reach logical decisions. Unbiased, rational approach.
  • Initiative - Actively influencing events rather than passively accepting; sees opportunities and acts on them. Originates action or ideas.
