We have a rare opportunity for an Area Technical Manager who will manage the technical and quality control of 4 asphalt plants and 8 quarries across the Southwest area. This role will provide you with the scope to utilise your technical and quality experience, dealing directly with customers and providing links between the commercial and operational teams, as well as navigate into product design and development as you look to build out more sustainable and environmental solutions. About the role You will provide leadership and technical support to the area technical team in support of the Regional Technical Manager and Technical Department. To ensure effective interaction with the Area management team in maintaining support for Company’s Health, Safety, Quality and financial objectives. Other elements to the role include: Monitoring and managing the output quality of all asphalt and aggregate materials within the defined area of responsibility to ensure that the Companies aggregate and asphalt products comply with all relevant Customer, National and/or European standards. Provide the technical management of the Asphalt and Aggregates Quality Plans ensuring technical compliance with the requirements and on-going development of the system. To propose and maintain a schedule of sampling, testing and inspection by ensuring that the technical service he provides in accordance with Company quality standards, procedures and systems. Plan, establish and maintain the most cost and resource efficient asphalt and aggregate mix recipe’s and designs. Ensure that all the immediate technical team are trained to maintain a tidy, safe and healthy working environment by providing regular and relevant updates to training and toolbox talks, and completing regular interactive safety tours. Operate an area technical contract review process to ensure that the Company are not exposed to unacceptable technical risk and that customer product and specification requirements can be satisfied and delivered in a timely manner. To perform to agreed standards and objectives, meeting quality reporting and time deadlines through effective management. Provide technical expertise to Asphalt, Aggregate & Commercial departments Be flexible in promoting and adapting to changing business needs. Assist/support in maintaining external and internal customer requirements and needs in a timely, quality and cost-effective manner. Ability to advise potential clients on laying methods for material produced via development of laying guidelines etc. Product design – Establish and maintain most efficient designs for all finished products with consideration of quality, production and economic factors including maintaining correct Type test data. Work in conjunction with Operational Managers & Commercial department to ensure joined-up approach. Upkeep of trial mixes, BOMs, and design data base material files etc. (if applicable). What will you bring? In depth knowledge and practical application of asphalt and aggregate specifications, materials testing and production methods. Hold relevant membership to a professional body, (IAT or IoQ.) Good literacy skills in order to read, understand and interpret specifications and to write reports. Strong numeric skills to provide statistical information and work with spread sheets A firm understanding of ISO 9001 and other construction standards and specifications A firm understanding of company policies and procedures. Possess a good depth of knowledge and understanding of both asphalt and aggregate business from production to final use. Srong interperson skills with previous management experience.
